Ninewells Hospital and Medical School Receives Bespoke Falco Cycle Hub
Home Case Studies Ninewells Hospital and Medical School Receives Bespoke Falco Cycle Hub
This is the new attractive cycle hub Falco designed, manufactured, supplied and installed for Ninewells Hospital and Medical School in Dundee this month.
Adopting the traditional FalcoLok design, the new 12m x 3m cycle hub is coupled with the Falco Toaster cycle rack, providing up to twenty simple and practical cycle parking spaces for staff, patient and visitor use.
The cycle hub features a single central door, sustainable FSC® hardwood cladding on two sides and perforated plate cladding on the other two sides, with all steelwork powder coated in an attractive NHS blue RAL colour.
A green sedum roof completes the cycle hub, providing many benefits to the hospital including reducing water discharge and compensating for CO2 emissions. A further benefit of green roof systems is that they traditionally last longer than a usual roof covering and offer a natural view for visitors to the hospital.
The cycle hub has been installed next to the Ninewells Village serviced accommodation entrance at the South of the Ninewells hospital site. Falco also supplied a five place Toast cycle rack outside of the cycle hub providing an additional ten uncovered cycle parking spaces for day cyclists.
In addition to the Ninewells Hospital and Medical School scheme shown here, Falco has also recently supplied cycle parking infrastructure for numerous other NHS hospitals including; a trio of cycle hubs for Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, two cycle stores for NHS Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline, a bespoke cycle hub for Newham University NHS Hospital, cycle racks for Royal Berkshire NHS Hospital in Reading, a bespoke cycle hub for Salford Royal NHS Hospital, cycle shelters for NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde and a cycle canopy for Heatherwood NHS Hospital in Ascot.
The FalcoLok as shown here at Ninewells Hospital, is a contemporary cycle store manufactured from a combination of a galvanised steel frame and sustainable hardwood, designed to be sympathetic to the surrounding area. The FalcoHub was developed by Falco’s in house design team to ensure it met the client’s specification including structural calculations so that the whole design meets the UK/European CPR regulations EN1090 and is CE marked as per UK law.
